Round dancing is a form of cued partner dancing. A Cuer announces the dance movements. Similar to squares, there is a vocabulary of cues each corresponding to a different dance action. The Cuer tells the dancers what moves to do when. Most dances have the couples progress around a circle, hence the name round dancing.

Why Try Round Dancing?

  • Round dancers spend time with their partners and friends, enjoying and moving rhythmically to great music. Round dancers participate purely for the fun of it--there are no competitions, no judges, no dance awards. Round dancers are rewarded with lifelong friendships.

  • Modern Round Dancing grew along with Modern Square Dancing through the second half of the twentieth century. Although pure round dance clubs exists as do pure square dance clubs, there are many clubs, like Fairs ‘n Squares, that offer both in what is called a two by two program. A caller will call square dance patter followed by a singing call. After these two dances, a cuer will cue two round dance routines. Then the caller comes up again.

  • Round Dancing is an active activity. Not only does your heart pump, but your mind is also exercised in trying to remember how to do all the figures that the cuer cues.
